Palestinians in Gaza have acquired anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets from Libya during its six-month civil war, enlarging but not significantly improving their arsenal, Israeli officials said on Monday.

While the rebellion against Muammar Gadhafi has stirred concern abroad about the fate of Libya’s ageing chemical weapons stockpiles, Israel has no indication Hamas or other Palestinian factions have sought these, the officials said.

Instead, Israeli officials have detected an inflow of SA-7 anti-aircraft missiles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), said one official, describing an overland supply route that opened up between eastern Libya – after it fell to the rebels – and the Gaza Strip via Egypt. A banned extremist who made a mockery of Britain’s border controls is now likely to pocket £5,000 in compensation because immigration officials could not speak his language.

The High Court ruled yesterday that Sheikh Raed Salah, described as a ‘virulent anti-Semite’ in the Commons, could claim compensation for unlawful detention by immigration officers.

They had seized the pro-Palestine hardliner – who should never have been allowed into Britain in the first place – to have him deported. A young Jewish boy was wounded in a hail of sharp-edged rocks hurled by PA Arabs in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Maale Zeitim, on the Mount of Olives. The boy received medical care at the scene, while Israel Police began searching the area for the attackers.

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas returned to a hero’s welcome in Ramallah earlier in the day Sunday after demanding the United Nations Security Council recognize the PA as a sovereign nation and grant the entity “full membership” in the international body. He announced to the thousands of cheering Arabs that he was launching the “Palestinian Spring” — claiming it would be one of “non-violent means” — a short-lived claim, it seems – to cement the PA’s claims to all of Judea, Samaria and parts of Jerusalem restored to Israel’s capital in the 1967 Six Day War.
