Pakistan: Govt. Officials ‘Behind’ Landgrab, Christian Persecution, Grave Desecrations
LAHORE, Pakistan – Christians in south Punjab Province are accusing senior district officials of supporting local Muslims who allegedly demolished 150 Christian graves and desecrated holy relics – and are now threatening Christians seeking legal redress.
In the Kot Addu area of Muzaffargarh district, Waseem Shakir told Compass by telephone that an influential Muslim group last Nov. 6 took illegal possession of a 1,210-square yard piece of land designated as a Christian cemetery and set up shops on it. Official records state that the portion of land was allotted as a Christian cemetery, he said.
“Local Muslims demolished 150 Christians’ graves and desecrated the cross and biblical inscriptions on the graves in a bid to construct shops on the property,” said Shakir, a resident of Chak (Village) 518, Peer Jaggi Morr, Kot Addu. “Only five marlas [151.25 square yards] are all that is left for the Christians to bury their dead now.” Read the rest of this entry »
Even China Battling to Prevent Muslim Girls Being Kept from School

Can you guess why the authorities in Linxia, China may be experiencing difficulties keeping girls in school?
The building in the foreground of the picture above may provide the astute with a small clue as to why. Time for another Guess The Religion™ Alert:
LINXIA, Gansu, March 6 (Xinhua) — Authorities in a Muslim Hui autonomous prefecture in northwest China’s Gansu Province are combating poverty and gender discrimination to keep all school-age girls in the classroom.
Figures released last week showed all school-age children in its eight counties were attending primary school, and the attendance rate at junior high schools had reached 95.5 percent.
“This shows girls’ schooling, a problem that has harassed us for decades, is settled to some extent,” said Ma Yongming, deputy education chief in Linxia.
Linxia, with a population of two million, is dubbed “China’s own Mecca” as more than half of the residents are Muslims.
Until the mid 1990s, only about 60 percent of its girls went to school. Inadequate education left 80 percent of women aged 15 and above illiterate. Read the rest of this entry »

Condemned Pakistani Christian Woman ‘Living in Constant Fear’

This is what persecution looks like: protesters in Karachi call for the death of Christian 'blasphemer' Asia Bibi
As would anyone condemned to death for a ‘crime’ for which there is no evidence in a country whose main religion thinks your religion makes you a slave – and fair game for rape and persecution..
A mother of five sentenced to death on “blasphemy” charges has lived in constant fear since the killing of Punjab Gov. Salman Taseer, her husband told Compass as he came out of Sheikhupura District Jail after meeting with her last week.
Ashiq Masih said his wife, Asia Noreen (alternatively spelled Aaysa, and also called Asia Bibi), is “very afraid.” Her conviction triggered a violent chain of events in Pakistan, including the Jan. 4 murder of Taseer by his bodyguard after the governor voiced support for her. People Power Stirring in Muslim Lands after Tunisia? Or Something Else Altogether?
Be careful what you (or more accurately the mainstream media) wishes for:
There appears to be a lot of media hype and euphoria over the events in Tunisia and the signs of similar unrest elsewhere in the Muslim world. But this video (from our good friends at MyPetJawa may provide an insight into to what’s really going on. Rapper El General was arrested over an earlier video decrying the Tunisian government and became something of a national hero.
After the protest movement gathered momentum and the government was eventually swept away, he has released another video (above), posted to YouTube on Thursday. There can be little doubt about the message – leaving us to wonder whether the supposed ‘Jasmine Revolution’, was really a popular uprising after all – and who else might have been behind it.
We’ll be keeping a cautious watch.
