RIYADH: The husband of a Sri Lankan housemaid working in Riyadh says that his wife has been a victim of sexual assault by at least one male member of the family she has been working for in the Kingdom.

He also claims she was being pimped “house to house” as a prostitute and her proceeds were taken from her.

The 30-year-old woman from Panadura district near Colombo came to the Kingdom on Aug. 29, 2009 to work in a Saudi household. The husband of the woman, Kamal, claims he went to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) about three months after his wife began working in Saudi Arabia to complain that she was being sexually assaulted by a son in the family. Step away from the hearts.. Saudi religious police threatening shop owners not to sell red goods and flowers on Valentine's day

JEDDAH: Flower shops and gift shops have been asked to remove all red items and heart-shaped gifts until after Valentine’s Day by the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia).

Celebration of the so-called day of love is frowned upon by authorities in the Kingdom.

Every year, Haia officials visit the shops a few days before Valentine’s Day, giving them instructions to remove all goods that have even the slightest hint of red, including roses, chocolate, wrapping paper and stuffed animals.

“We’re used to seeing Haia members a couple of days before Valentine’s Day asking us to put away all red items until after that day,” said Alan, a salesman at a gift shop.

“They also threaten that if we sell even one red rose or gift they will shut the shop down and get all the staff fired.”

Fighting back: car window sticker protesting against the Saudi ban on female drivers

JEDDAH: Almost every woman in the Kingdom needs a man to chauffeur her around. In most cases, such men tend to be husbands, fathers or adult sons. Many women also depend on taxis.

Working women who earn good salaries usually hire drivers. But there are some women who cannot afford drivers’ wages and so let their sons chauffeur them, even if they are below 17 and do not have driving licenses. These youngsters, who also do not have proper training, are a danger to themselves as well as others on the road.

Young boys can be seen driving their mothers to malls on any day of the week. Some of the boys are so small they need cushions under them to see over steering wheels. Some of these young boys are seen driving large SUVs and people carriers. Read the rest of this entry »

The marriage of underage girls to older men is widespread in Islamic countries (and in countries where Muslims settle)

The government deny this has anything to do with the marriage of children to much older men, of course – but the figures speak for themselves. The consequences of its perverted teachings appear to be hitting home for the Religion That Likes ‘Em Young™:

JEDDAH: Abdul Aziz Al-Fouzan, a member of the government’s Human Rights Commission (HRC), said the number of single Saudi women over the age of 32 is expected to grow to four million by 2015.

The HRC estimates the number of spinsters (defined, says Al-Fouzan, as single women over the age of 32) to be at least 1.4 million.

“This means that there is an unmarried woman among every 16 Saudi women,” he said in a recent lecture. “There are a variety of reasons behind this phenomenon including unemployment, a housing shortage and obsolete social traditions.” Read the rest of this entry »

A top Saudi Arabian counter-terrorism official had told US special envoy for Af-Pak Richard Holbrooke that he had little trust in Pakistan’s ISI when it comes to sharing information with it on terrorism, a US cable released by WikiLeaks cable reveals.

Major General Khalid al-Humaydan (“Abu Ali”), who has been leading operations against terrorists and those involved in sending funds to terror outfits based in Pakistan, had said his security forces had detained numerous individuals from Pakistan and were seeking cooperation to probe their activities.
