Plans to tackle the problem of children being groomed for sex in the UK are to be published.

The findings of the six-month inquiry by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (Ceop) centre into localised grooming will be released along with recommendations for the future.

Last week it emerged that more than 2,000 young victims of grooming have been identified since January 2008, but the problem is a “hidden issue” and likely to be seriously underestimated by police, social services and charities.

Peter Davies, Ceop’s chief executive, launched the investigation after former home secretary Jack Straw accused some Pakistani men in Britain of seeing white girls as “easy meat” for sexual abuse. Read the rest of this entry »

Moazzam Begg received over $300,000 from major British charities for his terror-supporting 'Cageprisoners' charity

Cageprisoners, a self-styled human rights organisation, has a long association with Anwar al-Awlaki, who was last week accused of being one of the figures behind the terrorist plot to blow up cargo planes which saw a powerful device defused at East Midlands Airport.

The Islamic preacher, based in Yemen, was invited to address two Cageprisoners’ fundraising dinners via video link, one last year and one in 2008. The group has now told its backers that it no longer supports the cleric and that it “disagreed” with him over “the killing of civilians”.

Setting up a new UN agency is a fraught business. UN Women, designed to fight for the rights of women in the developing world in a way previous UN agencies did not manage, is no different.
