With numerous attacks against Iraq’s Christians in recent weeks — including a Halloween day massacre in a Baghdad church, which left 52 dead — the country’s religious minority fears for its survival within the boundaries of the Middle Eastern nation. Yet, a long way from their native land, many Iraqi Christians are also living in terror in a far more serene place: Stockholm.

Swedish immigration officials have been deporting Iraqi refugees to Baghdad on flights about every three weeks, declaring that some of them have no legitimate claim to political asylum in Sweden. That includes Iraqi Christians — a category that does not automatically imply a risk of persecution, according to Swedish guidelines.

Of the 80,000 or so Iraqi refugees in Sweden, about 6,000 of them are Christian, according to estimates by the Syriac Orthodox Church in Stockholm. Read the rest of this entry »

Traffickers in Pakistan market the Australian Asylum dream

ON Tuesday last week, 17-year-old Zabih received the phone call he has been dreaming of from his cousin in Australia.

“He told me that Afghans have suffered a lot but finally things are getting better for them now that your government is allowing asylum-seekers and families to live in the community,” the affable young Afghan refugee told The Australian at his family’s restaurant in suburban Islamabad.

Zabih’s family had already applied unsuccessfully for legal refugee status in Australia. Now he believes the asylum-seeker route is their best option. Read the rest of this entry »

Mahira Rustam al-Azawi - Iraqi asylum seeker jailed for three years in massive benefits fraud

Not to mention a university education for herself and private schooling for her son. More celebration of diversity and enjoyment of the fruits of Cultural Enrichment™, this time from Britain’s ‘ethical’ asylum policy:

An asylum seeker bought three homes and sent her son to a fee-paying school by illegally claiming more than £700,000 in benefits, a court heard.

Mahira Rustam Al-Azawi, 49, used a series of false identities to milk Britain’s lax benefit system over eight years. Although she never worked, she was able to purchase three properties – two of which she rented out – worth in excess of £1million.

Her 18-year-old son was educated at Colfe’s School, in South-East London, where fees are currently £4,164 a term. Read the rest of this entry »

Omar Jamal, first secretary of the Somali mission at the United Nations, who fears 'oppressed' Somalis trying to gain asylum in the U.S. will be caught up in US authorities terror alert

Now, almost on cue, it appears the UN are running interference:

HOUSTON – An alert issued about a member of a Somali terrorist group trying to enter Texas from Mexico could impede efforts by innocent Somalis living in Latin America who are trying to gain asylum in the US, a Somali diplomat said Thursday.

U.S. Homeland Security has asked law enforcement in Houston to be on the lookout for a suspected member of the al-Shabaab group, an al-Qaida ally based in Somalia.

Omar Jamal, first secretary of the Somali mission at the United Nations, said his nation “is in a constant battle with al-Shabaab” and urged American authorities “to be careful who is bad and good in this new alarm.” Read the rest of this entry »
