ISLAMABAD – Taliban militants flog two men and a teenage boy in a video that has emerged from Pakistan’s tribal belt along the Afghan border, showing the hold of insurgents in at least one area there despite army offensives and intensified U.S. missile strikes in the region.

The video was shot on a mobile phone on Feb. 3 and passed to a local journalist who occasionally provides video to Associated Press Television News. The man who provided the clip said it was taken in the Mamozai area of the Orakzai tribal region, though there was no way of verifying that because travel there is dangerous for outsiders. Question what you hear: it isn't 'the West' that is 'killing innocent Muslims'

This piece from the Washington Times confirms a belief that we’ve always maintained on this blog – that in spite of the the constant, emotive whining from leftists and Islamists, claims that “the West is killing hundreds of thousands of inncocent Muslims” are nonsense. The biggest killers of Muslims in the world today are… other Muslims:

Taliban suicide bombings and other attacks caused Afghan civilian deaths to soar last year to the highest annual level in the war, the United States said Wednesday, while deaths attributed to allied forces dropped nearly 30 percent – a key U.S. goal for winning over the Afghan people.

Pulitzer Prize-nominated investigative journalist and lawyer claims Pakistan assisted Jordanian homicide bomber Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi in his attack, which killed seven US agents and a Jordanian intelligence officer when al-Balawi detonated himself at the Khost base last week:

Afghan spy officials tell The Daily Beast’s Gerald Posner that the chemical fingerprint of the bomb that killed seven CIA agents matches the kind produced by Pakistani intelligence.

Early evidence in the December 30 bombing that killed seven CIA agents suggests a link to Pakistan, two senior Afghan sources, including an official at their spy agency, told The Daily Beast. The pair said that U.S. has already taken a chemical fingerprint of the bomb used by a Jordanian double agent in the attack, and that it matches an explosive type used by their Pakistan equivalents, the Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI. Feeling the love of Islamism: Children wade through the ruins of their Swat Valley school, blown up by the Taliban in January

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Taliban have torched 473 educational institutions in Malakand division and FATA [Federally-Administered Tribal Areas].

In a statement, interior minister said that Taliban want to destabilize and defame Pakistan. They torched 409 educational institutions in Malakand division and 64 in FATA.

Malik said Taliban are enemies of Islam and Pakistan and professional killers. Militancy and terrorism will be eliminated from the roots, he added.

What this short report fails to mention is that those schools are overwhelmingly girls’ schools. Islam (and particularly the Taliban) doesn’t like its females to be educated for some reason.

Frankly, we’re scratching our heads as to why that could be…

A helpful hint for Pakistani PM Gilani in his noble quest..

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday said that education is his government’s top priority as illiteracy is the root cause of terrorism, Geo news reported Saturday.

Speaking at the inauguration of up gradation of NUML College in Mianwali to university, the Prime Minister praised PTI Chairman Imran Khan for setting up the institute and said giving access to education is a noble cause as knowledge is power. Read the rest of this entry »

Taliban Leader Baitullah Mehsud always insisted on anonymity in interviews

It now appears increasingly certain that the thoroughly nasty Taliban Chief, Baitullah Mehsud, has been killed by a missile from a U.S. drone in South Waziristan, along the Afghan/Pakistan border:

There are growing indications that Pakistan’s most wanted man, Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud, has been killed by a US missile.

A Mehsud aide reportedly confirmed that he had died when a drone attacked the house where he was staying. Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Quresh said the government was seeking “ground verification”. Read the rest of this entry »

Pakistan’s top Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, is buying children as young as 7 to serve as suicide bombers in the growing spate of attacks against Pakistani, Afghan and U.S. targets, U.S. Defense Department and Pakistani officials say.

A Pakistani official, who spoke on the condition that he not be named because of the sensitive nature of the topic, said the going price for child bombers was $7,000 to $14,000 – huge sums in Pakistan, where per-capita income is about $2,600 a year. Read the rest of this entry »

“Problems with the Taliban? Must be those pesky Jews and Indians..”

ISLAMABAD: Gross human rights violation against the people of Palestine and Kashmir, and use of state force by Israel and India is generating despair and militancy among the youth, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) said on Friday. Following discussions during a roundtable conference held on February 3, the CII stressed that Muslim and Western countries must revisit their policies and future strategies to achieve peace.

The CII on Friday suggested recommendations for a way forward on the widening gap between Islam and the West, which would be sent to ambassadors of countries who participated in the February roundtable discussions. Some men with beards prepare for a multi-faith dialogue meeting

Observers in Pakistan are warning that the ‘Talibanisation’ of the nation’s largest city, Karachi, has begun.

According to a report in the Pakistan Christian Post, two Christians were shot and killed execution style in front of their families by a group of more than 100 masked Taliban in the Christian colony in Taiser Town recently.

Taliban militants had reportedly chalked threats onto churches and Christian homes in the predominantly Muslim town warning Christians to convert to Islam or die. Calls from the Christian community for protection were ignored by police. Read the rest of this entry »

Their deaths were squalid, riddled with bullets in a field near their home by Taliban gunmen as the execution was captured on a mobile telephone.

In footage which is being watched with horror by Pakistanis, the couple try to flee when they realise what is about to happen. But a gunman casually shoots the man and then the woman in the back with a burst of gunfire, leaving them bleeding in the dirt. Moments later, when others in the execution party shout out that they are still alive, he returns to coldly finish them with a few more rounds.
