Counterterrorism Tools: How To Report Violent Jihad Videos on YouTube

Google/YouTube host thousands of hours of sickening jihad videos - but there is something you can do about it
Thanks to our good friends at the YouTube Smackdown Corps for these instructions. Read up – and get flagging!
How to (anonymously to the user) flag a terrorist video.
First click on the video that concerns you. Then:
- If you have not already done so, log in to YouTube. If you don’t have an account, you won’t be able to flag.
- If you see a ‘Confirm Birth Date’ button, click on it. It’s your agreement that you are 18 or over
- If you don’t want to watch, when the video appears, STOP or PAUSE it a few seconds after it has launched . If you choose to watch, we can tell you that you need a strong stomach. Many of these videos are offensive, graphic, and very upsetting to some
- Just below and to the right of the video, click on the flag. This opens another view that gives you the option to “Select a Reason” as to why you are flagging this video
- Choose: “Violent Repulsive Content” >> “Promotes Terrorism”
or:
“Hateful or Abusive Content” >>”Promotes Hatred or Violence” - Where it says – “Please indicate the group attacked” choose – “ethnic origin” “national origin” “religion” or “veterans status”
- You can also use the additional information section below this, to voice your outrage, or disgust, or even simple comments such as – “It is unlawful to host terrorist videos on US Servers!” or “I can’t believe that you stream these videos for terrorist recruiters.”
- When you’re done, go back up to the middle of the box and click “Flag This Video”.
A green (currently) box pops up and says – “Thank you for sharing your concerns” or some other message indicating you are done
Also useful is to let Google/YouTube know which terror organisation is being promoted. Below are a couple of resources which identify flags often used to either decorate the user’s channel page or in the videos themselves.
The US State Department’s list of designated FTOs (Foreign Terrorist Organisations)
Sunni insurgency groups (Iraq) – this may be a little dated but still worth checking.
Now get to work – and don’t forget to write in and tell us how you got on!
Google/YouTube Hall of Shame – Week 32
Sunday rolls around again – must be time for our regular visit to the the Google/YouTube Hall of Shame – checking out the Muslim terrorist video war porn that the Mountain View Moguls allow to proliferate (and profit from), on the world’s number one video sharing site. Week 32.
As always, we’re working with our friends at the redoubtable YouTube Smackdown Corps, to bring you the latest batch of Islamic supremacist video nasties..
While committing vast resources to ensure that they don’t get sued for copyright violations from Big Media and the Porno industry, Google/YouTube appears more than happy to allow these often disturbingly-violent video clips to be able to make their way from some of the world’s most wanted Islamic terrorists (including luminaries from such esteemed organisations as Hamas, al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba) – direct to your childrens’ bedrooms. The Fundamentals of Islam
Cultural relativism has become so ingrained in the West that few people can bring themselves to compare the relative merits or faults of Islam and other religions. In one of the clearest explanations of why all religions are not created equal, Sam Harris works to dispel the myth that Islam is a religion of peace corrupted by a few bad apples in ‘The Fundamentals of Islam’.
Facebook: The Online Recruiting Office for Jihad
While the world remains engrossed in debates triggered by Wikileaks, a new threat from cyberspace is emerging. Social networking sites have now become a potential space for recruiting extremists. An excellent primer by Iftekharul Bashar, a senior terror analyst:
On January 4th, the Governor of Pakistan’s Punjab Province Salman Taseer was killed by one of his body guards, Malik Mumtaz Qadri. Qadri confessed to the murder because of Taseer’s vocal opposition to the country’s blasphemy law.
Within a few hours of this assassination, a Facebook page for the alleged killer was created. The page gathered nearly 2000 fans in an hour and hundreds of people wrote messages, praising the killer.
Although the page was removed shortly afterwards, this incident represents an emerging scenario where social networking in cyberspace could become a tool of radicalisation at a much faster pace, and with less control than through conventional websites. Read the rest of this entry »
