Scene of the blast in Mogadishu this morning

A truck bomb killed at least 70 people at government buildings in the heart of Somalia’s capital on Tuesday, an ambulance worker said, and al Shabaab insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack.

Witnesses said there was a loud blast at a compound housing four government ministries in the K4 (Kilometer 4) area of the capital Mogadishu, where students had gathered on Tuesday to take exams.

“We have carried 70 dead bodies and over 50 injured people,” ambulance coordinator Ali Muse told Reuters. “Some are still lying there. Most of the people have burns.” Read the rest of this entry »

Palestinians in Gaza have acquired anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets from Libya during its six-month civil war, enlarging but not significantly improving their arsenal, Israeli officials said on Monday.

While the rebellion against Muammar Gadhafi has stirred concern abroad about the fate of Libya’s ageing chemical weapons stockpiles, Israel has no indication Hamas or other Palestinian factions have sought these, the officials said.

Instead, Israeli officials have detected an inflow of SA-7 anti-aircraft missiles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), said one official, describing an overland supply route that opened up between eastern Libya – after it fell to the rebels – and the Gaza Strip via Egypt. Muslims from Western countries are often found waging Jihad in Somalia and Afghanistan

There are currently several Dutch Muslims abroad actively participating in Islamic Jihad, the acting head of the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) told a Dutch TV station.

According to Jan-Kees Goet, over the past two years several dozen Dutch Muslims have attempted to travel to countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. Some of these have succeeded and are still active.

The internet appears to be a catalyst. Dutch Muslim males interested in the Jihad begin an Internet search – then, via hidden sites and forums they are introduced to so-called ‘facilitators’, who provide practical advice and assistance, for example on travel to Afghanistan.

The AIVD says that facilitators are active worldwide. “They are also active in the Netherlands”, says Goet.

Although, as over 10 years have now passed since the events of 9/11, society is paying less attention, the threat of Islamic terrorism is still ever-present.

And not just the Dutch Muslims. This week in Manchester, England, Munir Farooqi, a Pakistani immigrant, was jailed for a life term for Jihad recruitment for the Taliban – i.e. signing up British Muslims to travel to Afghanistan and kill British and coalition forces.

We strongly suspect that every Western country with a significant Muslim population is recruiting from within for Jihad terrorism. But, as in so many other facets of modern society, laissez-faire Multiculturalism, ‘diversity’- obsessed public policy and the mass media are busy shielding the problem from the only people who can effect real change and – armed with the facts – would have the will to do so: the electorates.

On Tanzania’s semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar, Christian converts live in a climate of fear. It’s a place where a young man flees the island to escape death threats from his Muslim family, and a Christian convert who accidentally burned pages of the Quran opts for jail by entering a guilty plea rather than face certain death from a furious mob.

Yusuf Abdalla, 23, fled to Moshi, mainland Tanzania, after his family threatened to kill him in June. Having converted to Christianity in October 2010 after hearing the gospel on the radio, he was enrolled at a vocational school in Zanzibar city to learn tailoring when his family found out in March that he had left Islam.

The beating he then received from family members left him with injuries to his head, hand and torso, as well as a serious mouth wound and substantial loss of blood, said an area pastor who requested anonymity. Read the rest of this entry »

Muslim extremists Boko Haram, with the alleged help of Nigerian army personnel killed 24 Christians this month in central Nigeria’s Plateau state, area sources said.

The attacks started Aug. 11 in Ratsa Foron village, where assaults that day and on Aug. 15 left six Christians dead; also on Aug. 15 in Heipang village, Muslim extremists killed nine members of one Christian family along with another Christian, the sources said.

“They were in army uniform. I even know some of them; they came along with the Boko Haram Muslims to attack us,” said a tearful Nnaji John, who lost her family in the attack. “I can swear to God Almighty that the attack was carried out with the support of the soldiers; I saw them.” Read the rest of this entry »
