Danish Muslims Increasingly Converting to Christianity
A unified message for apostates of Islam

43-year-old Safiya has taken a controversial decision; in baptism she has taken the final step in putting her Muslim past behind her.
“It is not an easy choice, but necessary for me if I am to feel a complete person,” says an enthusiastic Safiya as she takes in a standing ovation from members of the Free Church of Love.
An Iranian, Safiya has joined the ranks of the 100-150 other Muslims in Denmark who will convert to Christianity this year.
Increasing numbers
Priests, ecclesiastical organisations and experts all agree that the number of those who convert from Islam to Christianity has steadily increased in recent years.
“I would say that there are 100-150 Muslims in Denmark who convert each year,” says Intercultural Studies Expert Mogens Mogensen Ph. D.
Mogensen has carried out the most extensive survey ever of conversions from Islam to Christianity in Denmark. The survey concludes that almost 1,000 Muslims converted between 1980 and 2007.
“But in recent years the phenomenon has increased. Probably as a result of the fact that through education and work, Muslims have had much closer contact with Christians in Denmark and their values. We see a clear correlation between integration and the number of conversions,” Mogensen says.
Increased interest
The Ecclesiastical Integration Service (KIT), an umbrella organisation for 230 migrant congregations in Denmark, agrees that there is a considerable increase in the number of conversions.
“My clear feeling is that this has speeded up over the past two years. We get a lot more approaches from Muslims who want to learn more about Christianity,” says KIT Leader Henrik Lund.
One of the congregations that preaches Christianity for former Muslims is the Greater Love congregation at Vigerslev Church in Copenhagen.
“Over the past two years we have had an increasing number of Muslims who come to be embraced by Christianity than all of the previous years put together. They experience religious freedom in Denmark and for the first time many can choose the religion they want,” says Priest Nabil Astafanos.
At home
Back at the Church of Love the 150 of the congregation close their eyes, spread their arms and sway from side to side.
Apart from a few Danes, the congregation is primarily of Afghan and Iranian extraction, with services held alternatively in Danish and Farsi.
Safiya says that she feels ‘at home’ in Christianity.
“More and more people do. I actually came to the church for some years, but it took time to gather courage to take the step to be baptised,” she says.
The founder of the church says he is overwhelmed that more and more Muslims seek out his church.
“Last year we had large baptisms almost every month. I can’t say exactly how many have come over the past couple of years, but it is many,” says Massoud Fouroozandeh, himself a convert.
Tendency will continue
Islamic Researcher Jørgen Bech Simonsen of the Copenhagen University Institute for Cross-cultural and Regional Studies, says the tendency will continue.
“The Muslims who take up residency in Denmark are challenged by another religious understanding and thus ask themselves questions about religion. The world is becoming much more globalised and will result in more people challenging what they come from,” says Simonsen.
They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah . But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper. Qur’an 4:89

Of course her name is an alias. It has to be. The passage from the Qur’an above is not some anachronistic whimsy. Muslims actively pursue ex-Muslims and often attempt to kill them.
Yet the more Muslims are exposed to a civilised, democratic society (as opposed to living out separate lives in self-segregating immigrant communities) – and given the security to remove the oppressive yoke of a faith, which unlike any other removes the option to leave it under the pain of death – the more they indeed leave.
For just what kind of a ‘faith’ can it be, which forces you to remain within its strictures under pain of death?
Little wonder that we find Danish Muslims increasingly converting (and those lucky enough to be afforded a safe opportunity to do so elsewhere, too).

I’m an ex-Muslim myself; I left Islam spiritually when I was 19 when I took off my veil, tasted freedom and went for the first time to a Church in Montreal. The only reason I stayed on as a Muslim by name is due to my misguided loyalty to my family and country. Now, in my fourties, I’m finally baptized as a Christian – how heavenly liberating!
I realized finally how our Lord Jesus Christ, our true God came down so lovingly and humbly in human flesh, to bring freedom for all mankind, from committing evil and evilness of the world. And such true freedom as offered by the true God, is the key towards healing our pain and sorrow in a very wicked world (I was searching for all kinds of freedom, including freedom towards committing evil and freedom through rebellious Marxism)- and yet taken for granted by many, because they don’t realize yet how precious is, of such true freedom.

So happy to hear some GOOD news about muslims for a change. I often wonder why anyone would choose to convert to Islam at all. The only answer I can come up with is that it offers all the thrills of religion yet allows it’s members to have all the fun of living a life of often horrific evil.
Even though she is an atheist ex-Muslim, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, in her book “Nomad,” urges Christians to share their faith with Muslims She writes an entire chapter on the need to replace the hateful Allah with the loving (checed) Jevohah-God of the Bible.
Another author, Rebacca Bynum, has just written a book titled, “Allah is Dead — Why Islam is not a Religion.” She says it is not helpful to Muslims to be silent about their “contraditory and insupportable” Islamic theology. From moral and spiritual points of view, she says “Islam is deeply and profoundly wrong.”
For readers who want to learn about (or tell others about) the true God of love using Quranic texts that confirm the message of the Bible, I recommend, “Glad News — God Loves You, My Muslim Friend” by Samy Tanagho. There IS a better revelation of God’s message than the Quran, and Muslims need to hear about it.

I was always taught that there is no compulsion in religion and you are free to choose any religion you want. Yes, even if you are Muslim and want to change your faith. Changing to Christianity would be ridiculous, because any Muslim who was taught properly would know that Jesus is a highly revered prophet of God, but not his son. God is an omniscient, omnipotent being that transcends space-time. Why on earth would he have a human son??? Why not a child of another alien species instead??? Jesus never even claimed to be God’s son. It is well known that the Bible was written by man and altered to appease the pagans so Christianity could be spread. Need I remind those of you so called peace loving Christians about The Crusades? Do you consider Jewish extremists who kill Palestinian women and children representatives of the Jewish faith? Do you consider Christian extremists who bomb abortion clinics representatives of the Christian faith? Some of you so-called peace loving Christians are advocating invasions and murder. Your argument falls down primarily on one simple point – the evidence.
The fallacious ‘abortion clinic’ argument, the ‘no compulsion in religion’ argument (abrogated), the ‘just as many violent passages in the Talmud/Bible… all smacks of MPAC/MCB Taqiyya. But no amount of smooth spin can disguise the fact that Islam is responsible for an overwhelming amount of violence in the world – especially when compared to other religions:
– Where are the 17,000 deadly Christian attacks since 911?
– Where was the Jew attempting to murder a British MP?, or beating a teacher senseless because he was teaching girls about faiths other than Judaism?
– Which Hindu shot several of his colleagues on a US military base?
– Which Sikhs blow up Christians in their own churches?
You cannot anwser these questions without dissembling and spinning, because the answer in each case (and many, many more) is that the above are all atrocities that have been (and continue to be on a daily basis) carried out in the name of Islam. They are without parallel in association with any other faith and I would challenge you to produce the evidence that says otherwise.
You cannot answer these questions without throwing out accusations of hate and racism. And why? No one on this blog’s author roll is a racist or a Muslim-hater. We are, however critical of Islam – and it is this distinction that people like you gloss over in your eagerness to play the hate card.

There is no real proof other than what the media says that 9/11 was carried out by Islamic terrorists. With the discovery of nano-thermite in the Towers that came down, it is clear that there was US government involvement. I live very close to the Towers as well, and was horrified by those attacks along with all of the Muslims here, whoever was responsible.

By the way, the dhimmi rule was created because Muslims under Islamic law are required to donate to charity to help the poor. Since non-Muslims living under Islamic law cannot be bound to those rules the dhimmi tax was created. All it does is tax the non-Muslims at the same rate as Muslims for a charitable donation. I don’t care how some insane government who claims to represent Islam uses the law against non-Muslims. I don’t even know if any government is doing that. It doesn’t matter, it has nothing to do with the true purpose of the tax.
In my mosque, every year we have a representative of each faith speak on various topics. The speakers include Catholic priests, Jewish rabbis, Hindu priests, Sikh leaders, as well as leaders of other faiths. We all preach peace, why can’t you do the same???
Before I condemn you to a remote island with the other hate mongers, I do owe you a chance to learn. I think you are just misinformed, and what you may see is not representative of all Muslims. Some yes, but far from the majority. There was no disrespect intended. I am just furious over all of the anti-Islamic propaganda all over the web, and unfortunately chose this site to unleash some of my anger. I think we could easily work out our differences. Our goal should be to isolate and weaken the extremists, so they can never gain power by preying on the disenfranchised. The extremists gain power when there are social injustices. Once the social injustices are eliminated, so are the extremists. We can work together peacefully for a better world, instead of spreading more hate. There is plenty of hate in the world, we don’t need anymore.
I’m glad we are able to disagree in a civil manner – you should see some of the abuse we get. I have no problem discussing things with Muslims in this space. I do not block intelligent discourse such as this.
My problem is with Islam itself – i.e. how do you modernise such a seemingly immutable doctrine – and how do you address its supremacist political goals and separate those from its faith aspect; when for us it is absolutely clear that the best life and economic outcomes arise from relatively non-corrupt, secular, democratic states that uphold religious freedom (things that I regard Islam as wholly incompatible with in its present form)?
In reality I have hardly behaved in a civil manner. I am not much better than some of the posters above. For that I do apologize.
I was always taught as a child that the law of the land you live in always supersedes ANY laws of Islam where there is conflict between the laws. Islam doesn’t permit the gambling, so even if it is legal in your area of residence you cannot gamble. However if a married couple becomes divorced, the child may choose which parent he/she wants to live with if older than 7-8 years old according to Islamic law. This conflicts with the law here in the USA, where the judge would make that decision based on a hearing. Therefore, Islamic law CANNOT be applied because it conflicts with the law of the land.
As far as I am concerned, government and religion must be separated. All religions are open to interpretation and therefore cannot be incorporated into any government. Under any form of a free, secular, government of the people, by the people, one can choose what faith he/she wants to observe and live by those rules, provided they don’t conflict with the law of the land.
Think about it. Most Muslim majority countries do not instill Shariah. You really can’t because there is no consensus as to what is correct and what is not. The only Muslim countries that do follow Islamic law (in their own interpretation) are Saudi Arabia and Iran. The laws are different in both countries, and they both are really under the rule of royalty (nothing royal about that family) in Saudi Arabia, or a religious theocracy (they seriously need some sense knocked into their heads) in Iran. The rest of the Muslim countries live under secular regimes. So how can you say that Islam is not compatible with secular democratic states??? What is Turkey then???
The issue of corruption is present in all states, democratic or not, and is another topic of discussion entirely which has nothing to do with religion.
Don’t forget that Jewish people were treated very well under an Islamic regime. Specifically the Moorish Empire. Prior to the current arrangement of nation-states, I do not think there were any parallels in history where Jews were treated as equals and human beings as they were under the Muslim Moors.
With the recent uprising throughout the Middle East, one can see that they have been relatively peaceful, minus a few disgusting incidences. It is clear that a vast majority of Muslims just want freedom, job opportunities, and the chance to live a decent life. Nothing more.
Your problem with Islam could easily be applied to Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc. Extreme interpretations and extremist followers of all faiths exist. They must learn that they cannot impose their views on the rest of us. If they want to get together, and create their own country, on uninhabited land, then let them, and they can have their own rules and laws.
Even though I am Muslim, and you aren’t, we are like minded individuals. With sites like these, you alienate us, when we need to join together to get rid of the Talibans of the world. They have no place in society. They are nothing more than a disgrace to humanity.
Hey Muslim. I am a muslim. I was converted forcefully in 2009. They killed my freinds who did not converted. They were Muslim Religious Leaders and a huge mob. I want to live in peace but where is peace in Islam. I have studied Islam before my conversion where is love in it? Where is tolerence in it? Where is respect for fellow humans (Non-Muslims) in it? In muslim maddarsas (Where children memorize the whole Quran by heart) children are taught to hate Christians and Jews and Hidus. Where are peaceloving people in Islam? I loved my religion but what can I do now for my life? I am living in a muslim country and surrounded by millions of muslims, is there any guaranttee that they will spare my life if in want to return to my religion my own religion? No! you can just right on a blog but do you have guts to free us from islam and mohammad.
