Gaza: Do These People Look Like They Need An Aid Flotilla?

Those Poor Palestinians™:

If all goes the way sponsoring NGOs planned it, a nine-ship armada of activists will steam into a small Mediterranean seaport to break the “siege” of Gaza. Timed for the slow news cycles of the US Memorial Day weekend, organizers, led by “peace crusaders” from Turkey, Ireland, Sweden and North America will unload 10,000 tons of construction material, school and medical supplies.

The organizers are not surprised that Israel has already notified the Irish, Turkish and Swedish ambassadors that the flotilla will not be allowed to disembark in Gaza. They are probably counting on it so they can YouTube images to the world of the Israel Navy’s barbaric maneuvers to thwart the SS Rachel Corrie, named for the anti-Israel American activists dispatched by the Palestinian-led International Solidarity Movement to Gaza. She died needlessly and tragically “confronting” an Israeli bulldozer in 2003 -another useful martyred poster child for “peace and justice.”

So what can be done to thwart this cynical exercise from reinforcing the dominant narrative not only in the Arab and Muslim world, but in mainstream Western media, that Gaza is “under siege” by callous Israel?

For starters it can tell an indifferent world what actually entered Gaza legally from Israel just this last week of the “siege”: 637 truckloads, consisting of 14,069 tons of humanitarian aid.

Among the goods for Gaza civilians were 810,209 liters of heavy duty diesel fuel; 21 truckloads of milk powder and baby food; 897 tons of cooking gas; 66 truckloads of fruits and vegetables; 51 truckloads of wheat; 27 truckloads of meat, chicken and fish products; 40 truckloads of dairy products; 117 truckloads of animal feed; 36 truckloads of hygiene products; 38 trucks of clothing; 22 trucks of sugar and 4 trucks of medicine and medical equipment.

Hmm.. looks like those evil Jews didn't manage to 'blockade' this market...

Hmm - looks like those evil Joooz forgot to, er, 'blockade' this market..

..and surely they would have remembered to confiscate the toys meant for the little Arab children? No?

Perhaps the IDF were just sleeping on the job when the luxury cake ingredients got through..

What about the new olympic sized children's swimming pool in Gaza City? Surely they couldn't get that through a tunnel?

Roots - a luxury Palestinian restaurant - no - you have to admit, all things considered - life is tough for the world's largest recipients of international aid

In addition to that, 781 medical patients and accompanying individuals from the Gaza Strip crossed into Israel to receive treatment in various hospitals and 191 staff members of international organizations crossed into the Gaza Strip, and 202 crossed back from Gaza.

But numbers alone cannot win the day against the imagery of an international humanitarian flotilla braving a naval blockade. No, to win the day at CNN or SKY News, Israeli NGOs should launch their own flotilla from Ashkelon. It should be led by survivors of suicide bombings and families of the innocents who perished in the tsunami of terror that led to the erecting of the anti-terror fence in the first place.

Here’s a partial list of carnage caused by over 70 attacks between just 2001 and 2004 that the anti-Israel peace crusaders should be confronted with:

  • June 1, 2001 – 21 killed and 120 Israelis – mostly teenagers – wounded outside a Tel Aviv disco.

  • August 9, 2001 – 15 people were killed, including 7 children, and 130 injured in a suicide bombing at Sbarro’s in downtown Jerusalem.

  • December 1, 2001 – two genocide bombers detonated explosive devices on Jerusalem’s Ben Yehuda’s pedestrian mall on a Saturday night. A car bomb exploded nearby 20 minutes later. Ten people were killed, including many children, and 188 were injured.

  • February 16, 2002 – A suicide bomber deliberately targeted Jewish children sitting at a pizzeria in the town of Karnei Shomron. Three children died and over 30 were wounded.

  • March 9, 2002 – A suicide bomber kills 11 people and injures 54 in a crowded Cafe in Jerusalem.

  • March 27, 2002 – At a Passover Seder in a Netanya hotel, a genocide bomber belonging to Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs detonated an explosive device, killing 30 and injuring 132, including many children and elderly.

  • January 5, 2003 – 23 people were killed, and more than 80 were wounded when two Palestinian murderers blew themselves up near the old Tel Aviv bus station.

  • June 11, 2003 – Sixteen Israelis were killed and more than 100 were wounded when a homicide bomber, dressed as an ultra-Orthodox Jew, detonated his explosives belt on a bus in downtown Jerusalem. Palestinian terrorists have attempted 11 homicide bombings and murdered 23 Israelis in the last 4 days, since Palestinians “accepted” the international “roadmap for peace.”

  • January 15, 2004 – Two Israeli soldiers, a border policeman, and a security guard for a private manpower company, were murdered by a female suicide bomber at the Erez Gaza crossing.

  • September 1, 2004 – Two suicide bombers exploded almost simultaneously on two buses in central Beersheba, killing 16 innocents and wounding dozens.

And if their stories aren’t enough, maybe Sderot’s Amar family should join the flotilla. You remember the Amars. During the 2008 US presidential campaign, they were visited by candidate Barack Obama. He visited their family’s home, which sustained a direct hit by a Qassam rocket. They could hold up Mr. Obama’s quote, who said at the time, “if missiles were falling where my two daughters sleep, I would do everything in order to stop that.”

There is some talk that the international humanitarian aid may be off-loaded in Ashdod and transferred into Gaza. Fair enough, but Israelis should demand that a special care package to Gilad Shalit be added to be delivered by UNRWA.

It is Israel’s fear that her civilian population centers in the South will have to face another 7,000 terrorist missiles that had has led her to try to prevent the influx into Gaza of weapons but not food, fuel, or medical supplies. No other government, not Turkish, Swedish, Irish or American would act any differently.

Currently, Western public opinion is virtually drowning in a tidal wave of media lies about Israel’s self-defense measures against Gaza’s terrorist “Hamastan.” To rescue the Truth, let a people’s flotilla of inconvenient truths, serve as Israel’s first line of defense.

This is nothing to do with ‘aid’. The ‘NGOs’ that are sponsoring the ‘flotilla’ stunt number among them hardline terror supporting groups, hard left militants and leftist-led charities. There is a political narrative that left-leaning, anti-Israel media such as the BBC are hiding from you.

‘Palestine’ is among the world’s largest recipients of international aid.

The aim of this cynical stunt is to further the marginalisation of Israel, the only democratic, free and stable democracy in the Middle East (Leftists hate democracies); where Arabs enjoy rights and freedoms unheard of in Muslim countries.

Turkey, increasingly a prominent actor in the region, is a leading contributor to the flotilla, although there is no evidence of official government involvement, the stunt will help further the ruling AK Party’s recent objectives of increasing the Muslim country’s influence in the Middle East at the expense of Israel.

We are also hearing unconfirmed chatter that Turkey is warning Israel against any action against the seaborne stunt, threatening ‘reprisals’.

Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy, mixed in with more than a little wish-fulfillment, to us.

So much for that utterly fake and baseless mantra of “starving fakestinians”, huh?

Wow, the blind and deaf commenters are coming out of the woodwork today.

Showcase? These businesses are run by Gazans, and by all accounts they are doing well, the patrons certainly don’t seem to be starving. Of course there are poor people in Gaza. There are poor people in Israel, in the UK, France and any other country you can name – even Switzerland.

  • Andy says:

In the end the truth will prevail.
Here are some facts about ‘Palestine’, ‘Palestinians’, Israel and Gaza…….

1.In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.
2.The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.
3.The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.
4.There are now more than 4,100,000 so called ‘refugees’.
5.Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own peoples’ lands.
6.All Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.
7.The UN spends 50% more on ‘Palestinian Refugees’ than on any other refugees.
8.‘Palestinian Refugees’ are the only refugees that have their own UN organisation, The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East – UNRWA.
9.‘Palestinian Refugees’ are the only refugees whose children are also classed as refugees.
10.There are 23,000 UNRWA employees (Most of them Palestinian) compared to 7,000 for the rest of the world.
11.UNRWA’s biennium regular budget for 2010 and 2011 is US$1.23 billion, since 1999 10 billion dollars in direct aid has gone to UNRWA.
12.The biggest donors to UNRWA are not the Arab countries but the EU and the USA.
13.The birth rate, population growth in the ‘Palestinian territories’ is one of the highest in the world (No. 26 out of 223).
14.Fertility rates are about five children per family, equal to many African nations such as Rwanda and Senegal.
15.Projected life expectancy in the Gaza Strip (2010) is 73.86, greater than Estonia, Malaysia, Jamaica and Bulgaria.
16.The infant mortality rate in Gaza is 17.71 per 1000, lower than that of China, Jordan, Lebanon and Thailand.
17.‘Palestinian refugees’ are an Arab propaganda tool. Does anybody know that in 1971 there were 8 million Hindu refugees from East Pakistan. There are also more than 1 million Assyrian Christian refugees. All of them were ‘absorbed’ by surrounding countries and non of them claim eternal refugee status.
18.Israel treating the Palestinians badly? Kuwait and several Gulf countries expelled more than 400,000 ‘Palestinians’ in March 1991, after Kuwait was liberated from Iraqi occupation.
19.Gaza bad? There are 400,000 Palestinians living in Lebanon in twelve refugee camps — which human rights organizations and Palestinians say have the worst living conditions of all the refugee camps in the Middle East — as in most of the Arab countries, these Palestinians have been assigned the status of “foreigners,” a fact which has deprived them of health care, social services, property ownership and education.
20.Israel’s Arab citizens have more political rights than any Arabs in the entire Middle East while Lebanese law bans Palestinians from working in the public services and institutions run by the government such as schools and hospitals.
21.No Palestinian is denied medical care in Israel. In 2009 alone, 10,544 patients and their companions left the Gaza Strip for medical treatment in Israel. Moreover, there were 382 emergency evacuations from Gaza for medical purposes. Lebanese public hospitals do not admit Palestinians for medical treatment or surgery.
22.Israeli-Arab citizens economically better off than the majority of their fellows in virtually every other Arab country.
23.Of the 1,400 ‘Palestinians’ who died during Operation Cast Lead more than 60 per cent were bearing arms on behalf of Hamas.
24.Hamas deliberately operated near and in schools, hospitals, mosques and places with lots of civilians.
25.Hamas called on civilians to serve as human shields.
26.Even though civilians were purposely put into harm’s way, the civilian casualties during operation Cast Lead were minimal compared to D-Day. During the invasion there were 15,000 – 20.000 French civilian casualties, and the campaign in northern France through the remainder of the 1944 summer campaign cost an additional 25,000 innocent French casualties
27.As for disproportional…..In WWII, Germany lost more soldiers than England and America combined, yet nobody doubts that Germany was the moving and aggressive party in that war.
28.The Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem donates $3 million in aid annually to treat Palestinians in Israel. Following fears of a swine flu outbreak, three Israeli hospitals were assigned to treat cases in the Gaza Strip and 44,500 immunizations were transferred to the Strip.
29.Israel maintains a corridor for the transfer of medical patients out of Gaza, and about 200 medical staff members go through the crossings every month. Israel also helps coordinate the transfer of Jordanian doctors into Gaza.
30.In 2009, some 4,883 tons of medical equipment and medicine were brought in.
31.In the first quarter of 2010, Israel shipped 152 trucks of medical supplies and equipment into Gaza. In a typical week (in May 2010), some 37 truckloads of hygiene products were shipped to Gaza through the land crossings. In addition, a new CAT scan machine was recently shipped to Gaza.

BRAVO for this article and also to Andy.

Now how do we get the media to explain this truth?

The media is being used by these Muslim propagandists.

    Every day the murders continue.
In The Phillipines, in Thailand, in the Muslim countries of the Mid East, in Europe, etc. Jews, Christians Bhuddists, etc. and it seems even more of their own Muslim brothers and sisters, even children.
This is not just a coincidence.
    Where is the press???

  • nicko says:

    from a neutral observer:
So why won’t Israel allow ships to dock in Gaza?

  • Un:dhimmi says:

    Nicko:
Because Israel would have no control over the likely flood of arms from Syria, North Korea, Iran and goodness knows where else. Gaza is still Israeli territory, pending any ‘Palestinian ‘agreement’ – and therefore Israel is merely exercising her right to secure her border.

Israel offered the flotilla organisers safe passage and the alternative of transferring the ‘aid’ to the Israeli port of Ashdod, from where it would be dispatched to Gaza under the obervance of both themselves and Israel.

The Captain of the Mavi Marmara refused to comply with a legitimate request from the Israeli Navy vessel. You can witness the radio exchange for yourself here.

  • Andy says:

    Nicko
    There is NO blockade.
    There is restricted access.
Israel is willing to allow “aid” into Gaza, such as food to sustain the very people whose life’s mission is to exterminate the Jews.
This desire is clearly stated in the Hamas charter which calls for the obliteration or nullification of Israel. The Charter also selectively quotes Islamic religious texts to provide justification for fighting against and killing Jews and daily broadcasts and promotes terrorist activity and incites hatred of Jews and Israelis on Al-Aqsa TV.
Because of this threat they do demand that they be allowed to inspect the shipments to prevent arms and explosives being brought in.

  • Connie says:

ok so why then arent CNN BBC and the likes showing these images on the news apart from guts and gore? wouldnt it be to their interest to show this?

  • Un:dhimmi says:

The BBC have actually been showing some of the video footage we ran with – but well after us, and only edited clips.

However, curious to know why, as prominent newsgathering organisations with a left/democratic slant and a documented anti-Israel bias, you think it would possibly be in their interests to tell the truth about Israel for a change?

  • Judith says:

I think that here in the U.S. we get little information about how bad things really are for the Palestinians. Anyone can take 2 or 3 pictures and use them to try to convince people that there’s no oppression going on there. I for one do not believe it.

  • MrsJ says:

Judith, things look really bad to me in Chicago – does it have a blockade? Are the people being oppressed?

No, but they are poor, same as the poor in Gaza. The difference is, they’re not being exploited and manipulated.

  • ccdaniels65 says:

Before I get accusations of being an Islamophile or anything else, let me state that I have now spent 2 days researching, writing, arguing and defending the Israeli action – writing 2 articles and having a twitter debate with Galloway.

However, this video is a total waste of time. It shows Abbas at dinner in Gaza. Think how old this video has to be! It’s hardly representative of what life in Gaza is like now. It’s not a good line to take – to argue that no aid is needed in Gaza….in my opinion, the restrictions on food and medical supplies should be completely lifted. “Luxury goods” and construction materials subject to the same rules as they currently are – namely that they have to be tied to a project co-ordinated by an NGO.

That removes much of the humanitarian angle from the debate and makes room for a look at the politics rather than just bashing Israel

  • Un:dhimmi says:

    Thanks for writing in.

Our routine fact-checking revealed that Roots is an ongoing concern. Based in Rimal, Gaza. It’s part of a larger investment group (it would be interesting to dig a little deeper and find out whether there was anyone of interest among the owners, but that’s another matter) consisting, it would appear, of several similar establishments.

The Abbas-featuring video is in fact their own presentation video and can be seen on their current website, so we concluded that there was nothing there to detract from the credibility of the article by featuring it.

Indeed, we hold that the opposite is true, as it appears that the current operation is at least as opulent – and appears to be even larger in scale – as when Abu Mazen graced it with his presence.

Might we suggest, therefore, that you exercise a little more restraint in your choice of words, until you have perhaps carried out some fact-checking of your own?

  • Un:dhimmi says:

” Anyone can take 2 or 3 pictures and use them to try to convince people that there’s no oppression going on there”

    Judith

We take our responsibilities to fact-check what we write very seriously here. The pictures are actually from the well-known and established Palestinian site, Palestine Today.

  • Chevchelios says:

Who is saying that aid is not required ? I think what is being said here is that the Gaza residents are not in such dire straights that they have nothing to eat. Anyway the idea that the “flotilla” could alleviate the “shortages” in any significant way is ludicrous. Especially if you take upwards of FIVE HUNDRED people on the ships. Very inefficient use of space !
One thing I was wondering about. If the Palestinians thought they might need to eat, why did they destroy the greenhouses when the Israelis left Gaza ? Those greenhouses were bought for them by a (naive) group of US businessmen for $12,000,000.00 I think it was. Crazy no ?

  • Jason - Atlanta, GA says:

If Gaza is so badly in need of “Aid” why do they smuggle luxury cars through the smuggling tunnels instead of Food, Medicine and the cement they need to rebuild houses. BBC Video widely available on Youtube showing luxury cars being smuggled from Egypt to Gaza. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEV5GTAQpsQ

In September 2008, Lauren Booth, Sister-In-Law to ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair, went to Gaza to report on the horrible living conditions the Gazans suffer through. While she spoke about starving Gazans in need of food, an AP photographer snapped pictures of her in one of these poorly stocked, and definitely in need of aid Markets, http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/tony-blairs-sister-in-laws-gaza-media-show/.

All the claims that the Gazans are in need of aid are made up by the UN and Aid Organizations so they can keep getting funds. If the truth were really shown, and the world was enlightened to the fact that those poor Gazans, aren’t really as poor as the media depicts them, lots of funding to the UN and Aid Organizations would stop. Then they would be forced to go where they are actually needed, in deadly war zones like Congo, Sudan, etc… Nobody wants to do that now, do they.

  • ccdaniels65 says:

I still disagree with your conclusions. If I were trying to attract business, as this video is clearly trying to do, I would use all the archive footage I had to make myself look as attractive and elegant as possible. There is no way of knowing, as far as I can see from the Roots website, when those photos were taken.

Furthermore, the argument that Gaza is totally bereft of food, shelter etc, is totally discredited and not accepted by anyone not of a radical persuasion. You wont convince them anyway, so why argue against them?

It’s undeniable that the blockade does not provide for “normal” trading in markets etc – the tunnels produce a lot of the produce into Gaza. Israeli shipments allowed in are worked out to avoid starvation, but that doesn’t mean that all is well because a market stall is full at one moment in time.

Gaza is under immense strain; the situation is not as bad as the pro-pals paint it, nor as good as you suggest above.

Finally, I apologise if you were offended by my “choice of words” – I wasn’t attempting to be offensive, merely to proivide constructive criticism that I feel your message, whilst noble, would be better served using a different angle. This is a view I still hold

And even if some people in Gaza can afford things (which is surely the case) it’s still a horrible situation for the majority..

Last thing… I didn’t really understand the point? Some people in Gaza have access to food? Some people can buy sweets? what a horrible thing? Before they deserve aid they must starve to death or look like persons in the photos of Sebastião Salgado?

By the way .. the main aim of the ships was not aid. It was to help end an illegal and brutal siege so that people their can go on with their life and support themselves.. the thing they need most is not aid but freedom, a thing that most of us have and have forgotten how bad it is not to have.

My brains tells me the link is full of nonsense and hate.

B’t Selem are the biggest bunch of self-hating leftie Jews in Israel – they have little credibility with the rest of the community. Kind of like saying you’ve brought Jack The Ripper, to court to vouch for Ted Bundy.

The UN Human Rights Council is plagued with Islamists and has the arm of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference firmly up its backside. There is no credibility in the UNHRC and increasingly in the wider UN as it becomes ever more preoccupied with the Muslim agenda and drifts further away from its noble founding principles.

We know very well what the main aim of the Intifada Boats – please don’t presume to lecture us.

Oh and what happened to the $7.7 BILLION in aid sent to the Palestinians in the last two years? Surely it didn’t all go into Hamas’s pockets?

To our usual, civilised readers, I wanted you to get an idea of the kind of nonsense that the Islamo-leftists throw at the blog every single day.

Now to you, Mr/Mrs ‘Logam’ from Malaysia (yes we can see your IP address):

I really, really hate to disappoint you, but you see, the people that propagate the ‘fake’ information are in fact your own side.

The video (and all the accompanying photographs) are all Palestinian, not Israeli, in origin. Indeed, had you read through the comments, you would have known the video is actually the restaurant’s own promotional video, from their own website – so how could we make that up?

Did you not see one of your heroes, Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas), head of the Palestinian Authority, making a guest appearance? Look again. The photographs are from the noted Palestinian news site Palestine Today. Both are still up on the web, if you care to take a look.

Now I’m not one to try and direct your opinions (I couldn’t really give a damn what you think), but it seems that the only ‘sad story’ here is the one being fed to Muslims and Leftists like yourself, by your lords and masters in the Muslim Brotherhood and Hizb ut-Tahrir.

Since you are skeptical about the link I provided to Pajamasmedia, allow me to provide a new link to demonstrate my point. This link is from the Washington Post and confirms what the questionable Pajamasmedia link says.

Cliff notes from that article for those that don’t want to click through and read.

There is no starvation in Gaza. Gaza is well stocked with Food and Medicine. The Humanitarian crises the world likes to cry about is 80% Unemployment, Reliable Electricity, and a Way Out.

Unemployment is a problem of the Gazans own making. They would rather fight Israel than build their economy. Electricity is the same thing, even though Israel already supplies them with over 60% of their electricity needs. A way out could be blamed on on both Israel and Hamas. Israel will not let the people just leave, they have to submit a request that must be approved, but Hamas will not allow Palestinians to even submit the request to leave.

Thanks for the information – it certainly shows how much Jizya is being paid in by the gullible developed world, for very little evidence of any tangible improvements in the quality of life of the ordinary population. They do have plently of missiles and guns. though – and Hamas have a TV station to run.

A couple of further interesting points to consider -

a). We understand that tracking the actual donations from Arab countries is proving particularly difficult, as they often don’t pay up – so much for ‘brotherly’ solidarity!

b). More recent figures dwarf even those you provided, with an estimated US $7.7 billion projected to have been donated between 2008 and the end of this year.

These figures do not include substantial donations made by Israel herself – 70% of Palestine’s power is supplied by Israel (with the rest supplied by Egypt) and 15,000 tonnes of supplies are transferred every week, co-ordinated by those evil children of apes and pigs of the Israeli Defence Force. Israel also donates help and equipment to keep water and sewerage services working.

Additionally, no Palestinian is denied medical treatment in Israel.

These people are among the largest recipients of foreign aid on the planet – and Israel is at the forefront of helping them. Don’t believe the lies of the Islamo-Left alliance.
