Top Dhimmi Blogger Claims: ‘Universities Don’t Create Radicals’

An article in the Guardian today by respected journalist and blogger Sunny Hundal claims that the Flight 253 bomber, Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab – the Muslim terrorist peaceful religionist who attempted to blow up a Delta Airlines Airbus A330 on final approach into Detriot Airport – couldn’t possibly have been ‘radicalised’ at University, because ‘Universities don’t create Radicals’.

Abdulmutallab studied at London’s University College (UCL) and was elected chairman of its radical Islamic Society whilst there.

Hundal’s article lacks supporting information and his central arguments are erroneous – confusingly, he conflates the notion that Universities produce radicals with their need for free speech and civil liberty, as if the former is necessarily a product of the latter – and we’re supposed to live with it.

Well, there’s radical and there’s raving nutjob dangerous radical, Sunny.

His second argument centres on the universities’ role – his limp excuse here being a hand-washing ‘what are they supposed to do to stop it?; which leaves the reader with little other than a rather sizeable straw man.

In fact, there’s no reason why a University or any other institution for that matter, should not be a stout defender of human liberties and freedoms – yet still be well-managed enough to spot when things are going wrong and exert some control and leadership – and yes – even intervene occasionally, when the stakes are high.

He also berates Daniel Pipes’ ‘Campus Watch’ site  - an accurate if critical look at who funds what ME Studies courses on US campuses (see link in sidebar) – and uses the old libtard device of describing the criticism of Universities as incubators for radicals as a ‘neocon’ meme – whilst seemingly being too lazy to substantiate this assertion.

It seems to be an article of faith of some on the left that it is ‘neocon’ behaviour to question anything. Or perhaps just a conversation-stopper – the left’s stock-in-trade when their arguments run out of steam.

By extension, Hundal is basically saying that al-Qaeda could set themselves up running explosive classes at UCL’s Islamic Soc. and the rest of us shouldn’t be able to object, let alone do anything to prevent it.

Of course, Sunny. That would be ‘a ‘talking point for Neocons’, wouldn’t it?

Weak, half-baked nonsense. Read it all here (if you must).

Even though he is from the Left of the political spectrum, his main blog – Pickled Politics – is generally of a high standard, whatever you may think of his views; so it’s all the more disappointing to read something like this.

Take a look at the UCL Islamic Society’s video (above) and the promo poster for the ‘War on Terror Debate Week, organised between January and February 2007, while Abdulmutallab was President (below); and decide for yourselves. It took us an age to track any of this material down – the Islamic Soc’s website is rather conveniently ‘down’ just now and it would appear related material is being removed from the Internet faster than you can say ‘Allahu Akbar!’.

Would you call it an objective debating event?

Even the list of speakers gives the game away. Moazzam Begg, ex-Guantanamo detainees the ‘Tipton Three’, the Queen of Stockholm Syndrome Yvonne Ridley – and the obnoxious Islamist dhimmi George Galloway – who is on the payroll of both Iran and Hamas – all feature. But the question has to be – who were they ‘debating’? It looks as though it was a pretty one-sided afffair from where we’re sitting.

Do enlighten us.

Just a week of 'objective debate' - move along, nothing to see here...
