Freedom of Speech Triumphs as Geert Wilders Arrives in Britain

Geert Wlders: Dutch MP and leader of the Netherlands' most popular political party

Geert Wlders: Dutch MP and leader of the Netherlands' most popular political party

If only any of our politicians had this much courage and integrity. Read this then see his controversial film ‘Fitna’ here (bottom of page):

Geert Wilders [has arrived in] Britain today after a Government ban, which stopped him entering the country in February, was overturned.

The Netherlands’ Party for Freedom (PVV) leader had intended to show his short film Fitna – which urges Muslims to tear out “hate-filled” verses from the Koran – to the House of Lords.

But then home secretary Jacqui Smith made him turn back after arriving at Heathrow because his presence could “threaten community harmony and therefore public safety”.

When asked if he feared for his safety during the latest trip, or that it could spark violence, Mr Wilders said: “I do not expect that to happen.”

Speaking in the Netherlands, he said: “They (the Home Office) thought I might be the cause of community disharmony and public security problems, which I found strange.

“I showed Fitna in the US Senate, I showed it in the Danish parliament, I showed it in Jerusalem – I’m also set to show it to the Czech parliament – and nothing happened in any of those countries.

Wilders still plans to show his film

“Nothing happened, there was no violence. I’m non-violent, I just have an idea.”

Two high-profile Dutch critics of Islam have been assassinated in recent years – politician Pim Fortuyn in 2002 and filmmaker Theo van Gogh in 2004.

Meanwhile, the 2005 publication in Denmark of cartoons apparently mocking the Prophet Mohammed led to worldwide demonstrations, some of which turned violent.

Mr Wilders says his film has been available around the world, in 20 different languages, for the past 18 months and had not sparked any inter-faith clashes.

“It’s really silly to think I would show this film and something bad would happen. I don’t expect anything will happen on Friday,” he said.

Mr Wilders will be meeting the UK Independence Party’s Lord Malcolm Pearson to arrange a viewing of the film for other peers.

The Dutch MP said he hoped the viewing “might open some of the people’s eyes that are not open to, as I see it, the threat of Islamism to western societies”.

He said: “I believe it is not so much a religion, as a totalitarian ideology aimed at dominating.

Whether people agree with me or not, people will agree people should not be banned for their point of view.

Our cultures, based on humanism, Judaism and Christianity, are far better than the Islamic culture.

“We should be proud of that and fight for the preservation of our culture. It (Islam) will cost us our freedom.”

He added: “I hope that the British people will be grateful that I come – not because I’m Geert Wilders or my point of view, but because the decision by the court in Britain to overrule the decision was a victory for freedom of speech.

“Whether people agree with me or not, people will agree people should not be banned for their point of view.”

Prosecutors in Mr Wilders’ homeland have accused him of inciting hatred and discrimination.

We are thankful today for the Immigration Panel verdict, which overturned an overtly political decision by the British Home Office earlier this year, denying a legitimate EU Parliamentarian entry into another EU country.

This is also a strong message to Islamic bully Lord Nazir Ahmed – who threatened to mobilise ‘10,000 Muslims’ onto the streets of London to protest, had Jacqui Smith decided to allow Wilders to visit Britain earlier this year.

Geert Wilders is not an extremist, nor is he violent. He, like us, is alarmed at both the massive influx of Muslims into Europe in recent years and its effect on European culture and our way of life.

We do not agree with all his views (we do not wish to see the Qur’an banned, for example), but here at Un:dhimmi we are broadly aligned with his belief that an alien (and we believe inferior – we are not cultural relativists) culture should not be allowed to subvert our own.

Like Wilders, we value freedom of expression, women’s and children’s rights, democracy – and we abhor ‘honour’ killings, homophobia and other extreme and violent Islamic teachings.

We also believe that Muslim immigration into Europe and the Anglosphere should be halted – but, like Wilders, we do not hate Muslims – we are critical of Islamic culture and believe it incompatible with western life.

And we will continue to assert proudly our right to say so.
