“Problems with the Taliban? Must be those pesky Jews and Indians..”

ISLAMABAD: Gross human rights violation against the people of Palestine and Kashmir, and use of state force by Israel and India is generating despair and militancy among the youth, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) said on Friday. Following discussions during a roundtable conference held on February 3, the CII stressed that Muslim and Western countries must revisit their policies and future strategies to achieve peace.

The CII on Friday suggested recommendations for a way forward on the widening gap between Islam and the West, which would be sent to ambassadors of countries who participated in the February roundtable discussions. The ambassadors would forward the recommendations to their respective governments.

The CII identified that hegemonial [sic] globalism in the field of economy, science and technology and international relations, especially with reference to the United Nations and the Security Council was generating gaps in terms of poverty, exploitation and security tensions. It said foreign policies were formulated from a perspective of security and conflicts, adding that the focus must be centred on peace.

The council said hegemonial relationships were counterproductive in reality and a new vision with a bold departure from centuries-old war and conflict paradigm was imperative. It said the war on terror had shown that conventional war was no longer effective against the new forms of violence. The Council expressed concern over the worsening relations between the Muslim and the West, rise of Islamophobia in Western societies and a distorted image of Islam and Muslims portrayed in the Western media.

The council identified poverty eradication, elimination of the causes of terror and extremism, development of human resources and protection of environment as the common goals for which the Muslim and Western countries must work together.

The Pakistani Government and its constituent bodies (the CII is a government advisory group) have no shame. They continue to play their famous double game of appeasing the Taliban and the ‘International Community’ at the same time, assuring everyone that everything is under control.  

In reality, the Pakistani Military and ISI (Intelligence Service) are teeming with Taliban sympathisers running interference on behalf of the Bearded Ones and in some cases providing direct assistance.

The Government are currently attempting to paint a picture of a massive anti-Taliban push on the ground in the Swat Valley. We’re  not convinced this is happening – even the reports coming from humanitarian NGOs about massive displacement (of which we have no doubt there is at least a degree of truth – ordinary people must be terrified) have a whiff of self-interest about them.

What is going on here is the typical ‘Muslim dissembly cycle’:

Problems occur with Taliban or other nutjobs  -> the govt. once again comfort themselves by blaming their own problems on those evil apes and pigs – the Jews, the Indians  and the  Christians -> the West believes them -> gives them billions of dollars to help ease the pain -> rinse and repeat.
