Anjem Choudary is, we believe, the most dangerous man in Britain. He has for years been a central facilitator in the British Jihad – the true successor to Omar Bakri Mohammed, taking on the chief role in the radicalisation of young British Muslims after Bakri was effectively deported in 2005; after being refused re-entry from his native Lebanon, shortly after the 2005 London Tube Bombings.

He has continued to build on the hateful legacy of Bakri, running Al-Muhajiroun until it was banned. He was then involved in several other successor movements, including Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’aah Muntada, the group that organised the Danish Embassy protests in early 2006, now famous for the ultra-inciteful placards displayed, including those saying “Behead those that insult Islam”.

The latest organisation he is involved with is “Islam for the UK” (a.k.a. Islam4UK), which replaces the previous Al-Ghurabaa (The Strangers), who produced a poster describing the 9/11 bombers as ‘The Magnificent 19″ and were subsequently  designated a ‘proscribed’ (banned) organisation by the British Government. Islam4UK have been highly active in the past few months, oranising several inciteful meetings and protests. 

In recent days he has stepped up his activity and exposure. He is believed to have organised the Army Homecoming Parade protest last week - though he denies it - and, in an interview with the London Evening Standard calls for the “flag of Allah” to fly on the UK Houses of Parliament.  He would also force all females, Muslim and non-Muslim, to wear the burka.

His article count on UK Google News was 78 at the time of writing, the highest we have seen it to date. There can be no doubt that Choudary is escalating his activity and raising his profile. If he is sent down for a short period for incitement he will gain martyr status and is likely to increase his ‘kudos’ further. It may also deflect attention from potentially more serious activities related to the facilitation and funding of terrorism. It is time to shut him and his organisation down before he is allowed to create the real mayhem he is capable of.
